The Story

CULINARY ENTREPRENEUR AND OWNER OF FATOU’S HEALTHY EATS HEALTHY SIPS

Fatou is a talented chef originally from Senegal, West Africa, where she grew up in the picturesque town of Somone. Now residing in Fredericton, New Brunswick,Canada, she balances her professional pursuits with family life alongside her husband and three children.

Her culinary journey began at an early age, learning the art of meal preparation from her mother. One memorable experience involved serving a meal to her father, who humorously critiqued it as “fit for survival only.” This feedback sparked a determination in Fatou to refine her cooking skills, ultimately igniting her passion for creating flavorful and culturally rich dishes.

In Senegal, Fatou’s culinary expertise expanded beyond family settings, as she began catering for various groups involved in the tourism sector. She also earned her bartender certificate from the renowned Baobab Hotel, further bolstering her skills in the hospitality industry. Once relocating to Fredericton in 2019, Fatou has actively participated in local markets such as the Garrison Night Market, The Creator’s Northside Market, and the Boyce Farmer’s Market, where she proudly showcases authentic Senegalese foods and beverages.

As the owner of her café, Fatou’s Healthy Eats Healthy Sips, located at 440 York Street, Fatou provides customers with convenient grab-and-go options. She is also excited to launch a new line of beverages, including Red Bissap, White Bissap, and Tamarind drinks, set to be available both online and in various local stores.

Fatou’s work is deeply inspired by her mother, Rokhaya Cisse-Sarr, a skilled chef and accomplished entrepreneur. Rokhaya’s teachings have played a crucial role in shaping Fatou’s business acumen and personal values. Though Rokhaya passed away in 2020, her legacy continues to inspire Fatou in her culinary endeavors.

Having gained valuable experience as a bartender at the Royal Horizon Baobab Hotel in Somone, Fatou eventually transitioned to property management, where she oversaw all aspects of property operations, including catering projects across Senegal. Her diverse career journey has uniquely equipped her with the insights and skills necessary to successfully run her own business, enriching the culinary landscape of Fredericton.
